RUBICUNDA [cut-up collage zine]

About the project: RUBICUNDA is a full-color cut-up zine that, when printed, unfolds into a 11x17 double-sided sheet of images gathered from my stash, arranged together and in print for the first time, enclosed in a paper obi.

this project started back in early 2021, deep in the early pandemic, when i made a series of printable collage sheets for THE NEARNESS PROJECT—a now-defunct online publication founded by a couple of ROOKIE MAG alumni. it was a really neat pandemic project, and i loved putting these sheets together.

now that THE NEARNESS PROJECT is offline, i thought i'd go ahead and make this project available digitally and physically in a revised, updated form!

the original format took the form of letter-sized sheets; here, i've rearranged everything into a big, colorful broadside for you to enjoy. i also added some new images—consider it an 'expanded edition'!

it's loaded with images of things i like—gems, fashionable people, cats, postage stamps, knick-knacks, flowers, textures, textiles, furnishings, details. i remember sitting in bed flipping through stacks and stacks of books and magazines, selecting stuff that i wanted to include. it reflects a time where i was thinking a lot about safety and home.
